Emergency Medical Technicians, or EMTs, care for the sick and injured by quickly responding to emergency calls, and providing lifesaving care. When every second counts, and help is needed, EMTs are often the first responders who provide the required prehospital treatment which is vital to saving lives.

Susquehanna Valley EMS is proud to offer a cutting-edge EMT training program which is accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. Taught by state-certified EMT instructors, we are committed to providing students with the essential instruction required for a long-lasting, compassionate career. Students will receive one-on-one instruction by educators who have over 75 years of combined experience. Applications for our next session will be available shortly. After completing the course, students will feel confident that they have all of the necessary skills and certifications to be a well-trained EMT. Certifications include:

  • PA Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

  • Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT)

  • Hazmat Awareness

  • Advanced Life Support Assist

  • CPR for Healthcare Provider

  • Blood borne Pathogens

  • National Incident Management System

  • Vehicle Extrication Training

The Susquehanna Valley EMS Training Institute EMT course is approximately 220 hours. Classes are held two times per week over four months. Unlike other programs in the area, your tuition includes a uniform, course textbook and access to online materials needed to complete your education.

Students must be at least 16 years of age to enroll. If you are under 18, you must submit a signed, parental consent form.

You also must obtain:

  •   PA Child Abuse History Clearance

  • Required immunizations or records

  • Physical Exam by your primary care physician

  • FBI Fingerprinting

If you are considering a career in the medical field, the education you receive as an EMT will be invaluable as you continue your schooling to be a nurse, physician's assistant or doctor.

Increase your skills and knowledge with Advanced EMT Certification

Because we want to see you succeed, we are now offering an Advanced EMT course for those who are currently a certified EMT and 18 years of age. Classes are a  hybrid format, with self-paced on-line study, and classroom sessions every Saturday at the Susquehanna Valley EMS Training Institute. Our course meets the National Education Standards for AEMT as approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

 As an AEMT, you will gain greater knowledge and skills of prehospital emergency care. You will learn advanced airway skills, IV therapy, medication, patient assessment techniques, care for trauma, and cardiac arrest and oxygen administration. Students will complete at least 72 hours of clinical time in a hospital emergency department and on an ambulance with a paramedic preceptor. The clinical work is a hands-on experience where students are actively engaged in the care of a patient.
